We have a wide range of activities that we can take care of and organise for you, but if you are looking to find adventure in your own time, here are a few ideas to get you started.
It’s hardly surprising to find a breathtaking selection of golf courses in the game’s natural home. Championship links at St Andrews and Carnoustie are tantalisingly close, but don’t overlook some of the more local golf courses at Brechin, Letham Grange, Stonehaven and Montrose. Fine fairways and magnificent views all round.
Country houses and castles abound in this part of Scotland. Crathes Castle and Gardens near Banchory is the stuff of fairytales with its turrets and gargoyles. There are garden and woodland walks, as well as craft activities for kids. The ruins of Dunnottar Castle may look familiar to film fans: the castle was one of the inspirations for Disney Pixar’s animated Brave.
Each region of Scotland adds its own accents and nuances to the national drink. Dating back to 1824, Fettercairn Distillery near Laurencekirk is one of Scotland’s oldest malt whisky distilleries and open for summer tours Monday to Saturday. Royal Lochnagar Distillery lies next to Balmoral Castle in Royal Deeside and retains much of its original charm. Match your desire for whisky knowledge to one of Lochnagar’s three tours throughout the year.
Brechin Castle Centre provides a variety of activities for families: a miniature railway, nature trails, a model farm and Pictavia, where you can discover the culture and history of the Picts. The visitor centre at Montrose Basin Nature Reserve gives you a telescopic view of local wildlife, from migratory birds to seals.
Nearby attractions such as St. Cyrus beach, Stonehaven beach with open-air swimming pool and Lunan Bay that offers Land Yachting (Booking required), beach kayaking, family days and much more.
Winter Skiing in Glenshee around an hour away and fishing for Scotland’s Finest Sea trout in summer and jumping salmon in the spring and autumn on the river South Esk that starts less than 10 miles away.
Sup2Summit in Fettercairn provides paddleboarding adventures for all the family. Located 5 miles from the estate, they offer Paddleboarding on on thier Sup Pond at The Royal Arch Riverside Park. This is a great place to get started before tackling the Scottish Coastline. Suitable for Children aged 8+
Axe throwing is another activity available through Sup2Summit. Maximum group size of 8.
Wild Shore located in Dundee is another great option for those seeking water adventures, with a range of activities suitable for all including a giant aqua park. Experience wakeboarding, paddleboarding and ringo rides in the saftey of Dundee Quay just 37 miles from the estate.
Venture into the great outdoors at Deeside Activity Park. There is an activity suitable for all ages. For our younger guests, enjoy the go-kart track, fire arrows at targets for archery or visit the resident Highland Cattle. For a little more adventure, take on the sledging slope, climbing frames and the wooden wendy house.
Also available is Quad Biking, Rifle Target Shooting and Fly Fishing. Located 22 miles from the estate.
